POSITION SUMMARY
The Cook works as part of the Sundog team under the direction of the Chef to prepare high-quality meals, baked goods, and ice cream, while supporting both kitchen and front-of-house operations. The Cook plays an important role in developing menu items, preparing soups and daily specials, and ensuring the overall cleanliness, efficiency, and safety of the kitchen.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with the Chef to coordinate and execute all café and catering menu items, including appetizers, lunch and dinner items, and desserts.
Prepare and bake fresh breads, pastries, sandwiches, soups, and ice cream.
Contribute to menu development by creating dishes that align with the company’s culinary style and seasonal offerings.
Prepare soups and daily specials, ensuring consistency and quality.
Package and prepare catering orders for safe delivery and presentation off-site.
Store and label food properly to ensure freshness, safety, and minimal waste.
Assist in monitoring inventory levels and communicating stock needs.
Ensure all cooking equipment and utensils are clean, safe, and in good working condition before use.
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen, ensuring all health and safety standards are met.
Take responsibility for overall kitchen cleanliness, including dishwashing areas and food preparation stations.
Supervise and assist in training kitchen helpers and dishwashers to maintain efficiency and uphold kitchen standards.
Support the Chef in developing new ice cream flavours, recipes, and catering offerings.
Deliver prepared dishes to the front of house when required and assist in providing an excellent customer experience.
Communicate effectively and resolve customer concerns courteously and efficiently.
QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of a culinary program and secondary school or equivalent.
Minimum two years of experience as a cook; experience in a fast-paced or catering environment is an asset.
Experience in ice cream production is considered an asset.
Safe Food Handling certification required.
Familiarity with POS and kitchen ticketing systems; experience with Square is an asset.
High ethical standards, sound judgement, and respect for confidentiality.
Strong communication and customer service skills with excellent attention to detail.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Dependable, reliable, and able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
WAGE RANGE
$20 – $25 / hr
Wage is based on experience, duration of time working with Sundog, and skill, knowledge, and performance.
The Cook also takes part in tip distribution.
